hope, seed money, and the human core

I sat with a businessperson earlier this week and heard a story of kindness.  It gave me a little more hope in humanity than I'd had when I woke up that day.

The story goes that many years ago, a fellow businessman had given his grandfather seed money to start a new venture.  Given it to him.  Didn't ask for it in return.  But the receiving entrepreneur was given the admonition to pass the generosity along when given the chance.

By all accounts, that seed money was resown many times over.  The charge to go forth and do good had been taken seriously.  We all too often focus on the takers, cutthroats, and corner cutters.  I was reminded, as others have aptly observed - most people are good at their core.
