coherence
A new piece. Enjoying these warming days of spring here in north Florida.
coherence
what does a fresh turned over soul smell like?
underfoot in this garden
reeling from this
so called life
my friend insists
that to live well
is to struggle coherently
so he told novitiates
and he tells me that to be a saint
is to be myself
and that free speech means
something more like speech
that is true to the core of me
the work
the weeding, the tending
the watchful eye for that
which would plunder
and ever so often, the smell
of the fresh turned over soul of another
reminding me to start at it all
yet again

That definition of free speech appeals to me...
ReplyDeleteI have been reading William Law's work "An Affectionate Appeal to Christendom," which can be found here: http://awildernessvoice.com/AffectionateAppeal-Intro.html
It is worth the time.
